PM’s videoconference with dist officials today

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina will talk to officials in the field administration through video conferencing today to get to know the preparedness of the current situation of the coronavirus outbreak across the country. During her video conference with deputy commissioners, police supers, deputy directors of health department, and civil surgeons, the PM will give directives to combat the coronavirus, said a highly placed source in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Talking to The Independent, Ihsanul Karim, the press secretary of the PM, said the Premier would start the video conferencing at 10am at the Prime Minister’s official residence. Sources in the Cabinet Division and the public administration ministry said the 10-day public holiday, which started from March 26, might be extended considering the ongoing coronavirus situation.

The government is yet to take any decision in this regard till yesterday.

So far, the deadly virus has claimed five lives and infected 49 people here till Monday.

Farhad Hossain, state minister of the public administration ministry, said they did not know whether the public holiday would be extended. “The government will take a call on that,” he added.

Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to the PM, has reviewed the ongoing situation across the country at a

meeting at the PMO yesterday. Talking to The Independent, Dr Ahmad Kaikaus said they have assessed the possible impact of Covid-19 on different sectors. Cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam has instructed senior officials, especially divisional commissioners, divisional directors of the health department, and deputy inspectors general (DIGs) of police, through video conferencing on their preparedness regarding the virus.

The cabinet secretary advised them to work in coordination with other officials in their respective areas to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
