Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Father of the Bengali Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the birth anniversary of the founding father of Bangladesh.

“Tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth anniversary,” he tweeted today hours before the Indian premier to address Bangabandhu’s 100th Birth Anniversary through video conference this evening.

“He (Bangabandhu) is remembered for his courage and indelible contribution to Bangladesh’s progress,” Modi said.

“This evening, via video link, will address Bangabandhu’s 100th Birth Anniversary celebrations being held in Bangladesh,” he added.

Modi, who was set to join the birth centenary celebration inauguration programme as the chief guest in Dhaka, rescheduled his visit amidst Covid-19 fears.

The decision to postpone the grand event was taken late Sunday night at a high-level meeting in Dhaka against the backdrop of global outbreak of novel coronavirus that already had claimed over 7,000 lives and infected more than 1,80,000 people worldwide.
