Though the decision regarding Bangladesh team’s third-phase Pakistan tour is not finalised, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon expressed his doubt about the Tigers’ Pakistan tour in such circumstance.

He said if the tour is not postponed, many of the cricketers will not wish to travel due to their family difficulty.

“The discussion is being held between BCB and PCB. But what we see so far difficulty from the family comes around the tour, it deems there is an uncertainty for the tour,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.

“Still it is under discussion. My idea we could tell you all within the next one-two days what is being held. But the way the family difficulties are coming from all the places, the tour is very difficult in this circumstance,” Papon told the media while he was present as chief guest at the Bankers Championship Trophy (BCT) T20 Cricket Tournament at the Gulshan Youth Club in the capital yesterday. Standard Chartered Bank clinched the trophy of the BCT that started on March 7.

In the wake of the deadly coronavirus outburst across the world, a good number of series and tournaments of cricket and football along with other sports events has been postponed.

England returned home from Sri Lanka amid playing the practice match. New Zealand left Australia after playing a one-day match.  The one-day series between India-South Africa didn’t hold after being washed out the opener. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) till April 15 before its inception in March 29. The foreign players from Pakistan Super League (PSL) left Pakistan for their respective countries.

The BCB has postponed a gala concert of Indian music maestro AR Rahman and two international Twenty20 matches between Asia XI and Rest of the World XI, which were scheduled to hold in this month on the eve of the Mujib Barsha.

When cricketers go to the overseas country, they are being tested having quarantined. Bangladesh players have to face such situations in Pakistan when they will go there in such a situation of the world in fear of the new virus outbreak.

“There is no relation of venue with travel. It’s not like that they are allowed to go to a specific country but they are allowed to enter the stadium. It’s a big barrier to go outside of the country,” Papon said.

“Let’s see what is being done in Sri Lanka and India. Cricketers are being quarantined when they are going there from outside the country. It would be a tough situation if our cricketers are being quarantined,” he said further.

“We’ve got to know about those things. The difficulty is increasing with the pace of time. So, there is a possibility that the series may be deferred for a different time,” he added.
