In a protest against recent violence in the Indian capital of New Delhi, several Islamic parties under the banner 'Like-minded Islamic Parties' took to the streets in Dhaka yesterday.

The protesters called on the government to cancel the invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to visit Dhaka on March 17 to attend the celebrations of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Starting from the premises of the national mosque Baitul Mukarram after Friday prayers, the protesters paraded through the nearby thoroughfares via Purana Paltan intersection carrying placards saying ‘Stop Killing Muslims’ and ‘Cancel Modi’s visit’.

Traffic movement on the streets came to a halt during the procession. Police in armed gears guarded the procession in efforts to prevent any untoward incident.

In the backdrop of Delhi violence, the Islamic parties under the same banner voiced their protest after Friday prayers on the same day last week.
