Homage paid to language martyrs in districts

Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in different districts yesterday with due respect and solemnity, paying rich tribute to the martyrs of the historic 1952 language movement.

Our Manikganj correspondent reports: The People of Manikganj yesterday paid rich tribute to the language martyrs at Manikganj Central Shaheed Minar. Minister for health and family planning Alhaj Zahid Malek Shawpan MP, Family members of Language Martyred Rafiq Uddin Ahammed, Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous, Police Super Rifat Rahman Shamim PPM, Chairman of Zila Parishad and District AL President Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Mayor of Manikganj municipality Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, along others district level officials placed floral wreaths at one minute past 12 midnight last night.

Our Tangail correspondent reports: Tangail district administration led by DC Shahidul Islam, AL law maker Alhaj Sanower Hossain, different political parties, educational institutions, NGOs, Moulana Bhashani University of Science and Technology, Tangail Press Club have chalked out programmes to mark the day.

Drawing, songs on language and recitation contests held in Child Academy, Public Library and Shaheed Minar on Thursday.  Placing of floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar at 12.01 hours, hoisting of the national flag at half mast, hoisting of black flag, wearing of black badges, discussion meetings, drawing contests among the kids, cultural programmes, exhibition of documentary films, book fair and special prayers on 21 February were the high lights of the day.

Our Chaudanga correspondent reports: Marking the day, Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP of Chuadanga-1 constituency placed wreath at Chuadanga Government College Shahid Minar on the day at 12:01 am last night . After that Najrul Islam Sarker, DC, Jahidul Islam, SP, Dr. Maruf Hasan, CS, political parties including Awami League, educational institutions, government offices, social organisations and press club gave floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar.

A cultural function was held on Chuadanga Government College Shahid Minar premises in the morning.

Our Noakhali correspondent reports: The Noakhali district administration chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the international Mother Language day in a befitting manner.

District Comissioner of Noakhali Tammoy Das and Police Super Elias Sharif placed floral wreaths at the Maijdee court Shaheed Miner in the town.Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU ) brought a out a procession to mark the on its premises.

Our Panchagarh correspondent reports: To mark the day, district administration has chalked out a day-long programme including discussion meeting, poetry recitation, arts competition etc in the district.

Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Sabina Yasmin and Police Super Mohamed Yousuf Ali and others district level officials placed floral wreaths at central Shaheed Minar at 12 am last night.
