A seven-day group art exhibition titled ‘Impression of Nature’ by 21 freelance artists and students is underway at Zainul Gallery, Faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka (DU) in the capital.

Organised by artists and student art group, Outdoor Community, the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on the gallery premises on Monday.

Deneb Zeenat Latif, managing director of Magnum Management Consulting Ltd.; Taslima Yasmin, assistant professor at DU law department and doctoral researcher at Brunel University, UK and Ahsan Rony, founder of Green Savers, among others, were present at the opening ceremony. The guests were welcomed with desk plant instead of flowers.

Artist Tanjima Tabassum Easha, on behalf of the freelance artists and Outdoor Community, said about the exhibition, “We have invited our own destruction. Nature is losing its colours, looks and variations. What we have left for our future generation? Everyone needs to be careful about nature. Nature helps us to live on the earth. In return, what are we giving to nature. To make everyone little conscious about nature, we have arranged this exhibition.”

Deneb Zeenat Latif of Magnum Management Consulting Ltd said, “We are destroying our nature in so many ways. But the nature was our real canvas. I believe this exhibition will play a significant role to protest against environmental pollution.”

Ahsan Rony, founder of Green Savers, said, “As a conservationist, I understand that a huge number of trees are familiar in Dhaka city. Many places in Dhaka such as Segun Bagicha, Taltala, Kataban, Gabtoli are named after trees. These kinds of trees were there once upon a time. We killed them all. Let us all become more green-conscious.”

The exhibition ‘Impression of Nature’ is open to all every day from 10am to 8pm till February 23.
