A wonderful opening partnership by Kevin Kasuza and Prince Masvaure helped Zimbabwe finish day one at 291 for 7 against Bangladesh Cricket Board-XI in the lone two-day warm up match at the BKSP-3 Ground in Savar yesterday.

Opting to bat, the visiting side made a brisk start after the opening pair added 105-run for the first wicket to put pressure on the host. They totally dominated the first session (lunch break) before BCB XI skipper Al Amin (jnr) removed Masvaure (45) just after the lunch.

The BCB XI bowlers bounced back hard in the second session taking six wickets that left Zimbabwe to a precarious situation as they were slumped to 105 for 0 to 177 for 6 at one stage.

Bangladesh U19 off spinner Shahadat Hossain and pacer Shoriful Islam then ripped through the opposition’s middle order sharing four wickets between them while the highest run scorer Kevin Kasuza got victim to a run-out on 70 to add more misery for the host.

From 177 for 6, Timycen Maruma and Carl Mumba rebuilt the innings with an invaluable 49-runs in the seventh wicket stand before the former threw his wicket away on 34. The touring side pulled things off at the third session again ended day one a smiling note after Mumba and Ainsley Ndlovu added 65 runs with no damage done.

Shahadat Hossain picked up three wickets while Al Amin got two scalps for the host.

After the match Shahadat Hossain Dipu told reporters that the wicket was a little bit spin friendly and he took full advantage of it.

“I just stuck to my process and bowled accordingly. When I came into bowl they were scoring runs and our plan was to produce more dot balls to create pressure on them. That’s exactly what I did and got the result,” Shahadat Hossain said of his bowling.

I didn’t bowl at the World Cup. So these three wickets will make me confident and I will try to continue that,” he further added.

On the other hand left handed fast bowler Shoriful Islam said, “It wasn’t an ideal pitch for the fast bowlers. When I bowled in the World Cup the pitches offered bounce and the weather was different there too. So, it was difficult to bowl on this wicket. I tried to bowl up front but didn’t enjoy much bowling here. I had to put extra effort bowling here,” Shoriful said of the BKSP pitch.
