Defending champions Bashundhara Kings began their campaign of the Bangladesh Premier League Football with a struggling solitary goal win over Uttar Baridhara yesterday at the Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari. Daniel Colindres struck a late hour goal to make a winning start for the reigning champions when the star-studded Bashundhara had to struggle for a long 86 minute the lone goal of the match.

Bashundhara as the new comers in the last season (2018-19) had to face all the top ranked teams at their beginning, in the very first match had to face the then runners- up team Sheikh Jamal but overcome all the strong hurdles.

Bashundhara Kings began their debut match in the Bangladesh Premier League on January 1, 2019 with a solitary goal win against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club when they had to work hard for a long 68 minutes to win their very first match.

It was also almost a similar situation yesterday for the All Reds they faced last season in their league opener when on the day after more than 80 minutes hard working they just narrowly escaped with full three points.

In the last season also Colindres had a contribution in their 1-0 win when Marcos Venicious scored the goal with the assist of Colindres and this time the Costa Rican World Cup performer himself scored the all important goal.

It was a bit hard to imagine that Bashundhara would have to face struggling situation against the promoted Uttar Baridhara being a stronger sides they have this season than previous.  But the former national star Alfaz Ahmed, who joined as head coach of the Uttar Baridhara, was about to surprise snatching points when his boys halted the champions up to 86 minutes.

However, Bashundhara had the every dominance throughout 90 minutes match, though looked a bit slower, though had some close calls for breaking the deadlock.

The holders could take lead inside 10 minutes but a Colindres effort from the danger zone on seventh minute went over the cross bar.

Coach Oscar Bruzon made his first change on half an hour mark to exhilarated the attacks fielding Alamgir Rana pulling out Emon Babu but the change looked not so effective but to see a huge threat on 41st minute.

Uttar Baridhara could have a stunning lead four minutes before going for break when Darboe Lansing, former Jamal performer (in 2016 and 2017 season) when his thunderous free kick was saved by goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico in a spectacular fashion.

After a goalless first half Bashundhara began the second half with more aggressively and from a 30 yards long range left footer of Delmonte went inches over the cross piece.

Oscar Bruzon made his second replacement with fielding Shufil for Remon on 55th minute and this time it looked attacks got a tempo.

Bashundhara were unfortunate not having the lead on 70th minute and this time woodwork denied a Colindres effort when his shot returned hitting the side post.

Bashundhara had a great relief with Colindres found the net from very closer to the goal-line when netted the first goal of the league with a simple poke after goalkeeper failed to grip a Sufil cross

(1-0).
