BCB happy to get adequate players for representing nat’l team

The special edition of the Bangabandhu- Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) stands on the verge of completion as just its final has remained. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been succeeded in their efforts with what purposes they had organised the BPL. BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed his observation to the media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur recently.

“The board was so far concerned about this BPL but we are now very happy. Behind this happiness, there is everything that we wanted,” said Nazmul Hassan. “The biggest thing is that you all have understood which team is good as they cruised to the final. Initially there was no way to understand which team will be top. Almost all the teams are equally the same especially four-five teams were eligible to be champions. One-two teams were not strong or good teams. All the teams had been balanced teams. Secondly, local players have got a good chance to perform. There is no doubt about it,” Papon told media.

“Maybe we don’t utilise leg-spinners in that way. But it has happened in every team that’s not right equally; even if you look, they got enough chance.” A string of new players drew the attention all with their performance. Along with them, some old guard got their form back what the BCB boss said put them in a sweet problem. The BCB president said they face problem to fix their opening stand for Twenty20 squad prior to the upcoming tour in Pakistan in the crowd of the performers in the BPL.

“Our opener Tamim Iqbal didn’t play the last series. Then we were looking by whom we will play at opening stand. By then, we played Naim in T20. So, Liton and Naim opened there. As of now what we will do after seeing so many players ‘in-form’. Tamim is playing very well. Liton is in full rhythm and was batting very confidently. Naim is going on playing super innings. Imrul keeps going on brilliant innings. Afif is opening. Shanto is doing century to open. Miraj is doing superb. Now by whom we will open our innings,” he said.

“This is what we needed and what we wanted from the tournament. If you look at bowling: Mahedi Hasan is playing superb along with Mahedi Hasan Rana, Hasan Mahmud. This is what we wanted. Actually we could not have got players in that way. Now we have a lot of options,” he also said. “For this, if we go to form a squad, we will face problem to fix openers by whom we will open the proceedings,” he added. Regarding the new performers, Papon said they have to give more time to flourish their talent for the future games.

“We’re getting to see they have talent. That does not mean they will also do well to play international cricket. We’ve seen they’re utilising chances after getting their chances. But we know that one chance is not enough for them. we have to give them more time to flourish them. We’re happy that we are yet to get any complaints from any quarter. From broadcasting to every aspect, we are happy,” he said.

“We’ve just BPL final ahead. We’re happy to think that we could be able to pick some talented players for future from the tournament. We’ll get a bunch of players from the tournament for our T20 World Cup squad.” “But just one thing we have to keep in mind that there was no player from U19. They always play in BPL. This time we’ve very promising players in U19. This is also a plus-point for us. From that point of view, we’re happy,” he signed off.
