Defending champions Palestine eyeing to retain the title of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament, landed at Harzrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11.10 am in the capital yesterday.

They are the first team among the five overseas countries to reach Dhaka.

Mauritius, one off three African sides who will take part in the Bangabandhu Cup, also arrived here following Palestine at 2:40 pm.

Out of 23-member Palestine team, two will join the squad in Dhaka from German by the next flight.

Sri Lanka and Burundi are expected to arrive today, while Seychelles will be the last team to arrive here on Thursday at 10am to participate in the tournament.

As all the Palestine team members were tired due to a jetlag after a long 24 hours journey and were not in a position to talk with the reporters but what  manager Zaber Zaherin told in a nut shell means that they are here to win the title of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup for successive times.

Zaber Zaherin said, “We are the defending champions and here again with the target to win the trophy but it is also a preparation for us before the match before our FIFA World Cup 2022 against Singapore in March.”

Zaber also informed that out of 23, eight are the national side booters who played in the World Cup qualifying matches and rest of the players are the member of the Olympic team.

Meanwhile, Palestine won the title of the fifth edition of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup last year defeating Tajikistan by 4-3 in tiebreaker.

Palestine, who will begin their campaign with taking on Bangladesh on January 17, eliminated the hosts last year by 2-0 in the semifinal.
