Hope returned as Hasina
came to power in ’96

After the brutal murder of the Father of the Nation in 1975, the country passed through a dark period, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser, Salman F Rahman, said yesterday (Monday). The ray of hope came back when Sheikh Hasina ascended to power for the first time in 1996, he added.

“Today is the best day for Bangladesh. On this day, we achieved victory. But after 1975, Bangladesh went far behind from development and, from 1996, we were starting slowly to move back to the good times,” said Salman F Rahman, while speaking as the chief guest at a programme organised on the occasion of Victory Day at the Nawabganj Government Primary School in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka.

Salman F Rahman asserted, “In the last 11 years, we have become a role model of development and this is because of Sheikh Hasina. Since she came to power for the second time in 2009, the country has gone far ahead economically. If the ongoing developing work were to continue under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh would become a developed country by 2040.”

“We have earned independence through the sacrifices of millions of people. It is a great achievement for the nation. Today, I first of all remember the father of the nation—Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman—and his whole family, who were brutally murdered in 1975. I also remember the martyrs of the Liberation War,” said Salman F Rahman.

“We should know the history of our great Liberation War,

and the spirit of the Liberation War must be passed on from generation to generation. The country is moving ahead by upholding the history of Independence,” he added.

Earlier, Salman F Rahman, who is the MP of Dhaka-1 (Dohar-Nawabganj) constituency, paid homage to the martyrs at the altars of the Nawabganj and Dohar upazila administration offices for martyrs. He later attended the Victory Day march, which comprised various teams and was organised by Scouts from different schools and the police administrations of Nawabganj and Dohar upazilas.

At the beginning of the programme, Salman F Rahman received the salute from a march past by students of various schools of the upazila.

Later, in Dohar upazila, while attending the Victory Day march at Joypara Government Pilot High School, Salman F Rahman said efforts were on to make Dohar and Nawabganj model upazilas. He also said he would gradually implement all the promises he had made to the people of the two upazilas. We all have to cooperate as the country moves forward. He said to the students: “You are the future of the country. You people were never involved in terrorism and militancy and also opposed others who wished to join such criminal activities.”

On the occasion of Victory Day, Salman F Rahman distributed smartcards among freedom fighters. HM Salauddin Monzu, upazila nirbahi officer of Nawabganj upazila and Afroza Akhter Riba, upazila nirbahi officer of Dohar upazila, jointly presided over the programme organised by both the upazila administrations. Md Alamgir Hossain, chairman of Dohar upazila, Nasir Uddin Ahmed, chairman of Nawabganj upazila, Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nawabganj police station, Md Sazzad Hossaain, OC of Dohar police station, and officials of different government bodies were present.
