Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said the politics of BNP has now plunged into the quicksand of mistakes.

“BNP is now known as a ‘press release’ party or a complaining party. When BNP was in power, it had been champion in corruption for five times,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while addressing the triennial council of the district and city units of Awami League on the Khulna Circuit House premises.

“BNP is staging comedy in the name of waging a movement. People won’t allow a terrorist and corrupt party like BNP to be there in power again,” he said.

Quader asked the party leaders and activists to refrain from bringing anyone involved in terrorism, extortion, land grabbing and drug trading into the party, saying they need not the polluted blood.

Referring to the ongoing purge on corruption, he said, “The direct action of Sheikh Hasina has begun and she knows everything… be careful.”

At the council, Sheikh Harunur Rashid and Advocate Sujit Kumar Odhikari were made president and general secretary of the district unit Awami League respectively while Talukdar Abdul Khaleque and MDA Babul Rana president and general secretary of the city unit respectively.
