The curtain of the special edition of the Akash-DTH Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Tournament-2019 to celebrate the centenary birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is scheduled to be raised at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the domestic blockbuster Twenty20 cricket tournament as the chief guest. The 46-match tournament will get underway on December 11 with the participation of the seven teams, who will be run by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) without any franchisee.

The BCB has decorated the grand opening ceremony of the Akash Bangabandhu-BPL with a cultural programme, where foreign and local artistes will perform to ignite the four-hour-long gala night.

This time the main attractions of the programme are Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and his ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif, who are being brought here in Bangladesh by a special chartered plane for the BPL grand opening at 8:00 am today morning. They will hold a dress rehearsal after their arrival in Dhaka.

The heartthrob duo Salman and Katrina along with their troupe will dance and perform on stage with

the super-hit songs of Hindi films to enthrall the local spectators. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) broadcasting right holders Gazi TV, Maasranga TV, News24 coupled with state-owned Bangladesh Television (BTV) will live telecast the gala opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu-BPL.

The four-hour-long-programme, split into two divisions, will be held before and after the inaugural of the special BPL by the prime minister. Popular folk singer Mamtaz Begum and James will present their famous songs in the opening part of the night at to mesmerize the audiences.

The second part will have performances by the entertainers Sonu Nigam and Kailash Kher coupled with Bollywood actor and actress Salman and Katrina.

Meanwhile, a giant stage has been erected on the eastern side of the ‘Home of Cricket’, where nine side screens have been set up beside the previous two screens so that all the spectators from the different galleries can witness and enjoy the night.

The additional security has been taken for the presence of the prime minister. The government security entities including police, RAB and Bangladesh Army conducted a security rehearsal throughout the stadium and its adjacent areas by scanners and the other security metal detectors along with their dog squad to ensure the full-proved security.

The gate for the special programme will open at 2.30pm, more than two hours before the programme starts (at 5:00pm).

The board has set up a temporary seating arrangement in the ground in front of the podium, where each ticket has been sold by Tk 10,000. But some additional seating arrangement has also been prepared and sold Tk 5,000 each.

BCB firstly released around 5,000 tickets for the general public among the 8,000 seating capacity for the gala event. The remaining 3,000 tickets are to be given as complimentary to different organizations affiliated to the BCB.

The gala night of the BPL opening will end with the ear-splitting crack of pyrotechnics.

The BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said they are all set to organise the opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu-BPL.

“Our logistic preparation and stage preparation are going on. Our honourable Prime Minister has giver her consent to be present on the grand opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), from where she will announce the inauguration of the Bangabandhu-BPL T20-2019 and the countdown of the Mujib Barsho,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“Considering the presence of the honourable Prime Minister in mind, some additional measures are being taken. The security and other preparation have been fallen urgent to take for us. We are working with the government security entities. The artistes of the programme are expected to arrive here today and the first half of tomorrow. The partial rehearsal of the programme will be starting today (Saturday),” Chowdhury told media.

“The programme of the opening is being limited to cultural programme only. You all know it will be a concert and only songs will be held in the concert. The programme has been divided into two sections which will be held before and after the announcement of the honourable Prime Minister. We’ve a plan to organise the programme with the combination of the local and overseas artistes.”

“All are being invited in the programme. As a concert is being held, their participation will remain in the field in a way that is seen in an opening ceremony of any international event.”

“As per our plan, we’ve arrangement to live telecast the grand opening of the Bangabandhu-BPL in Dhaka along with some divisional cities across the country. We’ll try to broadcast the important matches of the BPL later on,” he concluded.

The first part of the event is scheduled to start at 5:25 pm and will continue with performances by local artists. Prime minister Sheikh Haina will arrive at 7:20 pm and after the inauguration, a fireworks show will take place.

The second part of the event is scheduled to start at 7:45 pm and will continue with performances by Indian artists. Katrina Kaif will perform on stage at 9:35 pm and Salman Khan will appear at 10:00 pm. The last performance of the event by the duo will start at 10:20 pm.
