The participating teams of the Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Tournament-2019 formally kick-started their BPL practice sessions without their overseas players yesterday.

Local players joined the first practice session in tandem even though some players started practice individually before this time frame.

On the opening day, only four teams including Dhaka Platoon, Rangpur Rangers, Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Thunder turned up to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Ground of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.

Dhaka Platoon, Chattogram Challengers and Rangpur Rangers among them held their first team practice at morning session, while Sylhet Thunder led by assistant coach Sarwar Imran attended the evening session with Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Nazmul Islam Apu, Sohag Gazi, Rony Talukder, Delwoar Hossain, Monir Hossain Khan and Rubel Mia.

During the gap of the practice session, Mosaddek Hossain said the team in Twenty20 can play better brand of cricket will be winners ultimately.

“All the teams are good on paper. But I don’t think in that way. At the end of the day, those who will play better cricket will be winning the match,” Mosaddek Hosain said.

Dhaka Platoon led by head coach Mohammad Salauddin appeared at the ground to do their first practice session, where Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Ariful Haque, Shuvagata Hom, Roqibul Hasan and Jaker Ali Anik were present.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza coupled with Hasan Mahmud and Mahedi Hasan did not attend the opening day session. The latter duo went to Nepal for the ongoing South Asian Games-2019.

On the other hand, Mahmudullah Riyad, Imrul Kayes, Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Qazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Enamul Haque Jnr, Muktar Ali, Pinak Ghosh, Masum Ahmad and Zunaid Siddiqui were present for Chattogram Challengers.

Players of both the teams did batting, bowling, fielding along with gym for four-five hours.

After grueling training session, wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan spoke to media, where he told they have set their first target to qualify the four-team stage of the BPL.

“All the seven teams will get down in the field for winning the trophy of the BPL. We’ll but play for the trophy also,” said Nurul Hasan Sohan, who is eyeing his place in the national team with his BPL performance.

“Our first target will be to qualify the four-team stage of the BPL and then think to march forward step by step,” Sohan told reporters.

The wicketkeeper-batsman echoed the same sentiment and said they will try to give their cent percent effort for the team’s success.

“Today Chattogram Challengers formally start their practice for BPL. All the local players have turned out to the ground. Foreign players are yet to reach. Maybe they will soon join with us all,” the 26-year-old Sohan said.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) repaired the pitches of the NCA Ground and set up the practice corners with the nets for the BPL teams. For this, the board kept stopping all the activities of the players at the ground for the last two days (December 2 and 3).

They built up temporary dressing rooms beside the existing dressing rooms at the ground to accommodate the teams’ practice sessions.
