Nasim for resisting anarchy in the name of movement

Nasim for resisting anarchy in the name of movement

Sounding a note of warning against any attempt to create anarchic situation, Awami League Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim yesterday said if any quarter resorts to destructive path of anarchy in the name movement will be resisted.

“If anyone tries to create anarchy in the name of movement, a strong resistance will be launched in every neighbourhood across the country,” said Nasim, chief coordinator of the AL-led 14 party combine, while speaking at a memorial meeting on former mayor of Dhaka City Corporation late Mohammad Hanif at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) here.

Replying to the BNP’s threat to launch one-point movement against the government, the former AL minister said, “Roaring for launching any agitation won’t bring any benefit for you (BNP) . . . Awami League is not afraid of that.” He briefly mentioned the history of AL’s struggle and subsequent victory over the repressive activities many times in the past.

Nasim categorically said the roar and blank sound of BNP, staying at home, won’t frustrate Awami League at all. BNP leaders earlier issued a threat against the government for launching a one-point movement if their party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is not freed shortly.

Nasim strongly criticized this remark, saying, “BNP doesn’t obey the law and the court as well. But law of the land will take its own course.”

The AL presidium member also advised the BNP to free their detained party chief through legal battle.

Bangabandhu Academy and Awami Muktijouddha Santan (offspring) League jointly organised the memorial discussion with Abdullah Al Mamun in the chair.

They also recalled the contributions of former Mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation to different democratic movements.

Hanif was a close aide of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Seriously injured in the grisly grenade attack at an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004, Hanif succumbed to his splinter injuries on November 28 in 2006.

Among others, outgoing general secretary of Dhaka South City unit of AL Shahe Alam Murad and AL leader Baloram Poddar also spoke on the occasion.
