Two women murdered in capital

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
Two women murdered in capital

Dead bodies of two women were found after miscreants slit their throats in the capital’s Dhanmondi yesterday. The incident took place inside a building located at Dhanmondi Road No. 28, House No. 21 beside the Kobi Kazi Nazrul Institute. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station Md. Abdul Latif confirmed the information to The Independent after visiting the spot. "We came to know about the deaths from the locals this afternoon," he said.

“Initially, the assailants killed two women with a sharp knife on the fifth floor of the building. We are conducting investigation into the case,” he added. The deceased were identified as Afroza Begum, 65, mother-in-law of industrialist Monir Uddin and Bithi, 19, a domestic help.

The law enforcers later took Bacchu, bodyguard of Monir Uddin, in their custody in this connection.

Police said members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reached the spot and they did already collect required evidence.

The bodies will be sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital  for autopsy, said the police. Locals and police suspected that another maid, aged twenty-one, was recruited yesterday and perhaps she might be involved with the killings.
