Fifth edition of ‘Dhaka Int’l Folk Fest’ set to begin Nov 14

‘Dhaka International Folk Fest’ is once again ready to present exhilarating performances of the folk music world. This year, the pioneering music festival of the subcontinent will take place from November 14 to 16, every day from 6pm to 12 midnight. Like the previous years, the festival will take place at the same previous venue, Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital.

Organised by Sun Communications Limited, the title sponsor the ‘Dhaka international Folk Fest 2019’ is Meril, while the event is powered by Dhaka Bank Limited.

To make the formal announcement of this year’s festival, a press conference was arranged yesterday at a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan. Chairman of Sun Communications Ltd Anjan Chowdhury, chief executive officer and managing director of Dhaka Bank Limited Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Head of Operations of Square Toiletries Limited Malik Mohammed Sayeed and folk music researcher and singer Fakir Shahbuddin, among others, were present at the press meet.

Chairman of Sun Communications Ltd Anjan Chowdhury said, “To uphold and revive the Bangladesh’s folk music among the young generation, we arranged a reality show ‘Bauliana’ in 2013. Later, with the aim of promoting our folk music globally and supporting local folk talents, we arranged the Dhaka Int’l Folk Fest in 2015 for the first time. Now, it has become one of the biggest international folk music festivals of the world.”  

This year, more than 200 artistes from six countries, including Bangladesh, will share the same stage to celebrate the music of the hearts. During the three-day festival, artistes Shah Alam Sarkar, Fakir Shahabuddin, Chandana Majumdar, Kajol Dewan, Malek Kawal, along with Kamruzzaman Rabbi & Shafikul Islam (Bauliana) and dance group Prema & Bhabna Nritya Dal will be performing from Bangladesh. On the other hand, Daler Mehndi from India, Junoon and Hina Nasrullah from Pakistan, Sattuma from Russia, Chveneburebi from Georgia, Habib Koité and Bamada from Mali will come to Dhaka to celebrate the spirit of folk music.

Like the previous years, the audience will be able to enjoy the live show by completing online registration free of charge. The registration process will be starting from November 6 and it will end on November 10. All the information regarding the festival will be available on the website and Facebook page of ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest’.

The audiences, who will be coming to the festival, cannot enter the venue with any type of bags, food and drinks. There will be no parking facilities for the private cars at the festival venue. No one can enter the venue after 10pm.
