First service jetty of Payra Sea Port, country’s third sea port, started its journey yesterday. The process of landing goods through this jetty has begun via mobile harbor crane on the first jetty of the port at Kalapara in Patuakhali at 11:00 yesterday. The service jetty of Payra Port was launched with a modern German jet harbor crane of 64 tons lifting capacity which cost of Tk 21 million to purchase. On the first day, the jetty and crane of the Payra port started its journey through unloading the goods of Zandenul, a Belgium-based company involved in capital dredging of the port of Payra.

SM Imtiaz Islam, superintendent (lighter and mooring), Mostafizur Rahman, deputy director (security), Sohail Mir deputy director (security) and Md. Asadullah assistant engineer (power) of Payra Port Authority were present at the programme.

According to the port authority, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the deep sea port on November 19, 2013 as one of Fast Truck projects of Bangladesh government. The overall development program is subdivided into 5 components. Payra Port is being built through the public private partnership based financing.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the operational activities on August 13, 2016 through the unloading of goods on a lighter ship from a commercial ship by the port of Payra in a limited range. Payra authorities have confirmed that the revenue of the port of Payra has been earned 110 billion by releasing the product of 35 ships.

SM Imtiaz Islam, superintendent of Payra Port (light and mooring) said, Sheikh Hasina's dream is to build a digital Bangladesh and it is the third seaport of the country which is included in ten fast truck projects undertaken to implement by Vision 2021. At present, the port's infrastructure development and operational works are progressing rapidly. The operation of the jetty and crane at the port of Payra has begun with its continuation. The port has introduced already a mobile hydraulic crane of 30 tones capacity and a forklift of 25 tones of capacity in its operation.

Hook, grub and speeder are being operated by three types of cranes. Also, dredging activities of the Ramnabad Channel of the port are underway through DISF project, Coal Terminal project, Fast Terminal project, Multi Purpose terminal and Belgium based company Jan de Nul.

SM Imtiaz Islam hoped that Bangladesh would become economically prosperous as economic development and industrial expansion of Patuakhali, Barisal and southern areas would be achieved through import and export of payra.
