Juba League leader Khalid held, 142 land in jail

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday arrested 143 people including Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, organising secretary of Juba League Dhaka (South) city unit for running illegal casinos in capital. Khalid was arrested from his Gulshan 2 residence and others from a casino in capital’s Fakirapool area.

Later, the casino detainees were sentenced to jail terms ranging from six months to one year. RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt Col Md Sarwar-Bin-Quasem confirmed the arrests and said that there are allegations as Khalid was patronising an illegal underground casino at Fakirapool.

Earlier, another group of RAB has raided an illegal casino inside Youngmen’s Club at Fakirapool yesterday afternoon and detained about 142 people from it’s ‘casino’. RAB Executive Magistrate Sarower Alam, who conducted the raid, said about 142 people including two women were detained from the scene. The casino belongs to Juba League's Dhaka (South) city unit Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan.  During the drive, around Tk 24.29 lakh, foreign liquor and huge number of gambling tools were seized from the club.  Sources said the Juba League leader patronise at least 17 ‘casino’ clubs at Motijheel and Fakirapool.

Of these, a total of 16 ‘casino’ clubs were operated by his own people and he directly operated the Fakirapool’s Youngmen’s Club. In these clubs, the casino is open from 10pm till morning.
