NOAB petition to vacate SC order on 9th Wage Board

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
NOAB petition to vacate SC order on 9th Wage Board

Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) yesterday moved with a fresh application with the Supreme Court for vacating its earlier order that scrapped the High Court (HC) order staying publication of gazette notifications of the ninth wage board for newspaper journalists.

After a brief hearing, chamber court of the Appellate Division (AD) Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent the petition to the full bench of the AD and fixed October 20 for hearing on the petition.

It its petition, NOAB said that the apex court on August 20 stayed for eight weeks the HC order that issued status quo on publication of the gazette following a ‘misleading argument’ by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam. Advocate AM Aminuddin and Advocate Md Yousuf Ali appeared for the NOAB.

Following a government petition, the AD on August 20 stayed for eight weeks the HC order that issued status quo on publication of the gazette. NOAB President Matiur Rahman had filed a writ petition on August 5 challenging the legality of the ninth Wage Board.

After hearing the petition, the HC bench of Justices Obaidul Hassan and Mohammad Ali had directed the government on August 6 to maintain the status quo for two months on publication of the gazette notification.
