A woman was allegedly gangraped when she went for a job interview at a "private company" at Shyamoli. Once again, the incident puts a big question mark on the security of women in Bangladesh. She alleged that she was fed a glass of coke mixed with sleeping pills. After she passed out, three or four people raped her. The woman filed a case in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on Wednesday. Based on her information, the police conducted a raid at the Shyamoli office on Wednesday night.

Fahim Ahmed Foyez, 30, an accused, was arrested, Jane Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, said yesterday (Thursday).

“The police are trying to arrest the other accused. One of them is Nahid,” he added.

The police will produce Foyez before a court later in the day and seek a seven-day remand for interrogation.

“We have collected evidence and preparations are being made for a medical test of the victim,” the OC told The Independent.

According to the statement of the victim, she went to the 35/1B Sher-e-Bangla Nagar office of Health Vision after seeing an advertisement on Facebook on August 27. She is a student of Shanta Marium University in the capital. A classmate of the woman said her friend applied for a part-time job at a vaccine-based company after seeing an advertisement online.

She was called for an interview on Tuesday afternoon. About four in the afternoon, she went for the interview at a building in Shyamoli. On the sixth floor, the woman saw that there was no job-seeker other than her. She thought that others might have gone through the interview. She might have come last.

During the interview, she was given a soft drink. After drinking it, she lost consciousness. The man who interviewed her and several others then raped her.

The victim’s classmate said during that time she regained consciousness but was helpless as she could not move. She was then sent home. The victim fell asleep at home.

On Wednesday, she became normal and recalled what had actually happened the other day. She told the matter to her friends and filed a case at the police station.

The police raided the house at Shyamoli on Wednesday night with the rape victim and her friends and classmates. A drive was underway to catch the remaining two culprits.
