Three plays to be staged at Shilpakala today

DL DESK, Dhaka
Three plays to be staged at Shilpakala today

Three different theatre troupes will bring their theatrical play at the three different stages of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the Segun Bagicha of the capital today evening.

Bangladesh Theatre will stage its 50th production titled ‘Siraj Jokhon Nawab Sirajuddaula’ at the National Theatre Hall, while Padatik Natya Sangshad Bangladesh will stage its acclaimed play ‘Shey’at Experimental Theatre Hall  and theatre troupe Palakar will stage ‘Wrong Legechhe’at Studio Theatre Hall.

Adapted from the playwright Sachindranath Sengupta’s historical play ‘Sirajuddaula’ written in 1938, the play ‘Siraj Jokhon Nawab Sirajuddaula’ has been adapted and directed by Abdul Aziz, who preserved the original story of Sachindranth’s play, which brings to light a dark chapter in the history of Bengal - the fall of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah and the fate of the people of Bengal. However,  the play was shortened and added first and final acts to the new play to give a new dimension.

The play ‘Shey’, a compilation of short stories by Rabindranath Tagore, has been adapted and directed by Debashish Ghosh. The cast of the play includes Mariam Koli, Kamal, Mamun, Mizan, Dolly, Pavel, Foysal, Al Amin, SP Arannya, and Shakil among others.

Based on the Kolkata-based Indian theatre troupe The Royal Bengal Theatre’s play ‘Pouronik Pancharong’, the play ‘Wrong Legechhe’ has been planned and directed by Aminur Rahman Mukul. The new production by the theatre troupe will have two consecutive shows today and tomorrow at the same time.

The story of ‘Wrong Legechhe’ revolves around a mischievous deity named Manobdev who decides to test the bond between a husband and wife.
