BCB looks for a high profile head coach to replace Rhodes

Board meeting likely to decide on July 27 along with important issues

BCB looks for a high profile head coach to replace Rhodes

The executive board meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held on July 27, said BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“We had talks a board meeting to be held within this month. We hope that our next board meeting will take place on July 27. We’re taking our preparation in that way,” said Nizamuddin, who returned home from ICC board meeting in London on Saturday.

“Board meeting is a routine matter. Normally the updates of the ICC board meeting put forward to the board meeting for discussion along with financial and other regular matters,” Chowdhury told media at his BCB officer of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

The meeting is important for some crucial matters including appointments of the national team’s backroom coaching staff, renew contract of the BCB selectors along with BPL franchises for the BPL-7 because those matters will be resolved in this meeting.

The appointment of the head coach will be finalized in the board meeting, a post which remained vacant just after being mutually cut ties with Steve Rhodes.

Seeking high-profile coach, the board meanwhile floated an advertisement whose date has been ended on July 18.

When asked about the response from the interested coaches across the world, BCB CEO said that they have got a good response in their advertisement what they gave for the head coach and other coaching staff.

“There is a good response to the advertisement. Some high-profile names are communicating with us out of the advertisement. You all know, in the current international scenario, the most high-profile coaches are interested at domestic T20 competitions. They’re not much more interested to work for permanent basis,” he said. “But our target is to pick such a coach, who will be available for the full time. We’re looking for that coach with whom we’re interested to work,” he also said.

“Then it’s a matter of board’s decision. We’ve to take our decision on the basis of their availability as we are looking for a full-time coach,” he added.

“Of course, there is a positive side. Local coach will get chance to work with the high-profile overseas coach. In that sense, it’s a big opportunity for them,” he responded to a query.

It’ll be done from the practice aspects. It’ll depend on which will be effective for us. Those who are communicating with us, in that case, if the board feels to talk anyone among them, they will then call for interview,” he concluded.
