BCB ready to announce nat’l team for Sri Lanka tour

SPORTS REPORTER, DHAKA
BCB ready to announce nat’l team for Sri Lanka tour

Akram Khan, director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and its cricket operations committee chairman, said on Monday that they will announce the Tigers squad for the forthcoming Sri Lanka series within the next two days.

Akram also said that they will send a 14-15 member squad for the Sri Lanka series barring Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Kumar Das.

“Our president is now abroad. And so, we’ll announce our team for the Sri Lanka series tomorrow or day before tomorrow (Tuesday or Wednesday). We’ve planned to send a 14-member squad. At best, one player might be increased,” he said.

“Our others cricketers are busy in different series at different places. You all know our A team is in India. Some are playing against Afghanistan A. So, I don’t think that we needed to call so many for this short series. It’ll be a squad of 13-14 players,” he told media.

“Everybody will travel together. Some could be gone from India. We’ve fixed it within the two-three days. Shakib is going to perform Hajj. Even, Liton’s marriage ceremony has been fixed earlier. Barring two of them, all the players are going there. We’ll miss them,” he added.

When asked about replacement of Shakib and Liton, Khan said, “We’ve to pick two players in place of Shakib and Liton. Moreover, Mahmudullah is recovering. Even Mashrafe also completed his recovery. Those who are doing well and played in that positions we are thinking to take them.”

“There will be heard names but who will be gone whose name will be known tomorrow or day before tomorrow,” he replied to another query.

Asked if they have any plan to give head coach charge on Khaled Mahmud Sujon for the longer period, Cricket Operations Committee Chairman said, “We don’t hear such type of words. It’s a board decision. I can’t make any comment individually.

“There is a remote possibility of it. Again, if we get a good coach, he will then join the team,” he said.

“If we get a quality coach for the long time, he will see training. But there is less possibility of it. So, we’re thinking about Sujon for the nonce. That’s our plan,” he added.

“We’re in thinking who will be team manager during the Sri Lanka series. It’s not so important. The main thing is who will be head coach,” he said while he was asked about team manager of Bangladesh team in Sri Lanka series.
