Bangladesh is now considered one of the most attractive investment destinations in the world and the Bangladeshi diasporas in Britain could send a proposal to the government to set aside a dedicated special economic zone for them, said Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to PM, yesterday.

The adviser said this when a 23-member business delegation of UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI), a business organization by British Bangladeshi businesspersons met with him at his Gulshan office, says a press release.

Salman F Rahman said businesspeople across the world are coming in significant numbers expressing their interests to invest in Bangladesh as the country, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has witnessed unprecedented growth and development in various sectors and is undergoing a massive transition towards prosperity. “British Bangladeshi businesspeople should also seize these opportunities,” he told the delegation.

The adviser thanked the Bangladeshi diaspora for their immense contribution to improve Bangladesh’s image in the world stage and urged them to continue their mission. He also suggested organising a series of investment summit and seminars jointly with the Bangladesh government in Britain to promote Bangladesh’s investment potential. The Adviser also urged the British-Bangladeshi diaspora to be prepared to face the drastic challenges of fourth industrial revolution.

On their part, the business delegation responded very positively to his idea of organizing investment summits and proposing the government to allocate a special economic zone for British-Bangladeshi businessmen.

Furthermore, they expressed their interests to invest in various sectors in Bangladesh. They also asked queries about several government business policies and put forward their proposals.

The adviser answered their questions and assured to forward their proposals to appropriate authorities. The UK businesspersons will be exploring investment opportunities in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram as part of their visit scheduled between June 14 and June 21.
