The work of a marine drive road stretched for 1.56 kilometres from Kuakata official picnic spot to Dakhil Madrasa, has been started to protect Kuakata Sea Beach from the tidal surge in the upcoming monsoon.

To construct the road, of 2.74 metres wide and 2.74 meters high, geo-tubes and sand-filled sacks will be used. Being financed by Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), a private construction firm named Beach Geo Textile Company has been operating the work at a cost of Tk 1. 90 crores. The work is scheduled to be ended by June 30.

The recent erosion in Zero Point area of the beach caused around two kilometres washed away by the tidal surge. In response to this loss, the BWDB has initiated the work of marine drive road as experimental.

Kuakata Municipality Mayor Abdul Bareq Mollah said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has a special focus on Kuakata sea beach protection. Special projects have been taken to prevent erosion. It will take time to implement these projects. So to protect the beach in the upcoming monsoon, the work of marine drive road has been taken up as temporary.
