Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday expressed optimism that the unresolved issues between Bangladesh and India would be settled during the upcoming tenure of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“During Modi’s last tenure, we were able to resolve many issues between the two countries. We hope that he would continue to work towards solving the unsettled matters including the Teesta water sharing issue,” Quader said at a press briefing after an AL secretariat meeting at the party president’s political office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, reports BSS.

The AL general secretary said Modi contributed to the settlement of long-standing border disputes. His government had resolved the Sitmahol (corridor) problem and in the upcoming tenure, Modi would be interested in solving the other problems existing between the two countries, he added.

Awami League Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Abdur Rahman, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Adv. S M Rezaul Karim, Abdus Sattar, Eng. Md. Abdus Sabur, Sujit Roy Nondi, Shamsunnahar Chapa, Faridunnahar Laily, Delwar Hossain, Barrister Biplob Borua and Marufa Akhter Popi were present at the event, among others.

Quader said, the AL secretariat meeting was held to discuss the issue of national conference in October and organizational tour of the party. Besides, the meeting discussed national and organizational activities, `Mujib Borsho’ and other issues.

About Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment, the AL secretary said the government is humanitarian enough on the issue.
