Two theatrical productions to be staged at Shilpakala today

Recitation organisation Swarobanjan will stage its latest production ‘Ghum Nei Otopor’ depicting stories of Liberation War today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital, while Swapnadal will stage its anti-war laboratory theatre production ‘Tringsha Shatabdee’ (The Thirtieth Century) at the Studio Theatre Hall.

‘Ghum Nei Otopor’ is a compilation work based on Nasiruddin Yousuff’s ‘Ghum Nei’ and Jahanara Imam’s ‘Ekattorer Dingulee’. The production has been compiled and directed by Hasan Arif.

The production depicts  sacrifices, struggles hopes and dreams of freedom fighters. The casts of the play include Dipak Ghosh, Monirul Islam, Sabiha Setu, Tonmoy Karim, Syed Ashik, Pankaj Pandey and Kaniz Hridi, among others.

On the other hand, The story ‘Tringsha Shatabdee’ is based on the destruction of the two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which lead to the surrender of Japan and was meant to be the end of the war to end all wars, however, the world has seen many more wars since.

The production incorporates the terrible experiences of wars on people, including the Liberation War of Bangladesh, as well as the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a transformation, the narrator of the play becomes a character, namely Suman, who wants the trial of war criminals acted against the country’s Liberation War during 1971.
