Heera suggests Shakib to practice with team

Former captain Shafiqul Haq Heera differs with fast-bowling coach Courtney Walsh and said that it would be better for Shakib to stay with the team and do bowling practice for so longer period rather than bowling four overs in IPL match.

“If Shakib could play IPL matches, it would be better for him. But he did not get the opportunity to play after his opening match at Eden Gardens,” said Shafiiqul Haq Heera.

“I think, it would be better more for him if he could do bowling practice so long staying here with the team rather than bowling four overs in IPL,” Heera told The Independent over mobile phone.

“What I have heard he could be played some matches for Sunrisers in the next. But he should not delay to return if Hyderabad did not field him in the next match because all the coaching staffs return Dhaka and start practicing for the World Cup. He should join it before flying for Ireland” he added.

But Tigers pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh said that it will be good for Shakib to be there to play some matches that will make him sharp and benefit for the team if he can.

“Well he is in India with his IPL team and I think it’s good for him to be there to get some match practice if he can,” Courtney Walsh said.

“Unfortunately for us, he hasn’t played many games as yet. We are still hopeful that he plays. The atmosphere, I think, there and probably the conditions it’s good for him to be there if he is going to get a game or two before because I think that match fitness for him right now is the key,” Walsh told media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“He was injured; he was practicing for quite some time. Personally, I would like him to play couple of games in the IPL to get a bit sharper for of the World Cup,” he added.

When asked about his absence put any impact on team’s spirit, the former great bowler said, “I think everybody understands. For me even if the vice-captain comes here and practices I don’t think that it’s going to be that intense if he played in one or two IPL games. So, I don’t have a problem with him staying there and playing,”

“And if he can get a couple of games before we get to Ireland it would be good for him. And if not the sooner we can get him in Ireland the better it is for him and the team,” he told in response to a query.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave their permission to Shakib to play IPL because they thought that playing in IPL is better more than playing at domestic cricket and practice.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have their next match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) today (Tuesday). Then they have another two matches against Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab on April 27 and 29 respectively. And then, they have a match against Mumbai Indians on May 2. But he is expected to return home before Mumbai Indians match to fly with the team for the next tri-national series in Ireland on May 1.
