Bangladesh began their campaign in the Bangamata Gold Cup Under-19 Women’s Football tournament with winning note when they blanked United Arab Emirates by 2-0 yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

It was more than predictable in accordance with their previous experiences in different AFC competitions in Under-14 and Under-16 level that Bangladesh team will win the match with a winning record.

Bangladesh just kept up their momentum also in the Under-19 level competition with comfortable victory playing with full dominance throughout 90 minutes when the visitors UAE could rare cross the midline to make any threat.

But the winning margin was not satisfactory as the hosts creating series of opportunities could utilize only two with captain Sirat Jahan Swapna and Krishna Rani scored a piece.

The midfield combination of Monika Chakma, Sanjida Akhter and Maria Manda with Shopna and Krishna, chopped at tackles and drove to box, with Shopna gracing the match with touches of class and scored two goals, was central to Bangladesh’s first-half tempo, as the home side took a two-goal lead inside half an hour mark and could have extended it before half-time.

However, the hosts initiated their raids right from the kick off and put the visitors under tremendous pressure but had to wait open scoring for 13 minutes when Sirat Jahan Shopna broke the deadlock.

Shopna, who playing with good pace received ball in an open space from a through pass of Ankhi Khatun and left her markers with a sprint before enter into the area and found UAE goalkeeper Aya Walid Malalla in one on situation before placing the ball into net (1-0). Bangladesh team, who were controlling the possessions went closer to advantage the lead when they should have two goals in span of two minutes when Shopna wasted the chance to score her second and as well for the team but despite having goalkeeper one on one shot the ball straight to her gloves on 18th minute.

Two minutes later Shamsunnahar looked a bit selfish when she entered into the box and shot the ball closely straight to keeper but provide for Swapna who was unmarked in an open space inside the area.

Krishna Rani Sarker finally doubled the margin on 31st minute in style when she slammed her header off a right flank corner from Maria Manda (2-0). Bangladesh playing the second half with same style to dominating the possession but could not increase the tally but giving missing trial having series of opportunities when inside 15 minutes after the break they could have at least three more goals but Shopna, Krishna and Sanjida failed to mark the targets from close range efforts.

Tajikistan and Laos will face each other today at 6pm.
