Bangladesh is the number one country in the world that has been able to create solar home, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, has said. He urged everyone to spread the news about the use of solar energy.

“We may not know about it. Like our other achievements, which we have published, the news of solar energy use also needs to be circulated,” said Rahman. He said this while speaking at a seminar on ‘my village my city, the role of renewable energy’ at a hotel in the capital, where the authorities concerned stressed the need to create energy from solar power in the coming days.

Planning Minister Muhammad Abdul Mannan was present as the chief guest, while Salman F Rahman was present as the special guest at the seminar organised by the Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA).

“It’s time to think about ‘my village, my city’. This is our Prime Minister's mission and vision. And such arrangements for working in this sector will give us important guidance. “It’s clear to everyone now that all villages will not turn into cities. But village people can enjoy the advantages of city life,” Rahman said.

While many amenities of urban life are being brought to villages, the problems of cities are also being faced by the rural people. Terming this as a downside, Rahman said, “Even though this is not desirable, many of the urban problems are being transported to the villages.”

He has said there was no specific system of garbage disposal in the cities, and so was the case is in the villages. He also added most of the villagers now had bikes and lots of electricity was being wasted because of this. “Everything should be brought under well a laid-out plan,” said Rahman.

The PM’s adviser will unveil a new river route from Sadarghat to Shinepukur via Nawabganj. “I took a pilot project for my own area. I will introduce the river route from Sadarghat to Shinepukur. Like other transportation, the river route will also be introduced,” he said.

Abdul Mannan said with the passage of time, villages would turn into cities. There was no disagreement on the issue. “The way technology and education is going forward, people of the villages will transform themselves. But what we should do is to do it quickly and in a systematic way. The government has been accelerating this transformation from within,” the minister said.

Speaking on the importance of solar power in the coming days, the minister said, “Whatever we do, we should go to the suppliers of everything. The main source of supply is power. So, we have to achieve strength. Solar energy will be one of the sources of green and clean energy in the coming days. So, we must start working sincerely in this sector.”
