Brutality at its peak

Man burns body after strangulating wife
STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka
Brutality at its peak

Police yesterday arrested an individual from South Mugda in the capital with the charges of burning body of his wife to hide the evidences of brutality that he had killed her earlier by choking. The detainee is Komol Hasan while thedeceased was identified as Hashi Begum, said Pronoy Kumar Saha, Officer in charge (OC) of Mugda Police station.

Police is interrogating the husband, he added. Hashi was killed by her husband Hasan as a result of domestic disturbance. He killed his wife because of quarrel and later tried burning the body to remove evidences that she was killed by him through choking, said the OC.

The deceased hailed from Parbatipur of Dinajpur district. and used to live with her husband in a rented house in South Mugda Bank Colony area. Hasi married to Hasan around eight months ago and it was the second marriage for both, police said. Since then, their relationship has been deteriorated and family disputes took place frequently.

Yesterday, Hasan killed his wife and later, to remove the signs of murder, he poured kerosene to the dead body and set on fire. About 45 per cent of her body was burnt, said the OC. Later, the body was sent to DMCH for autopsy. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to her family.

Hasan initially confessed that after killing his wife, he wanted to divert the matter in a different angle, the OC added.
