Shakib leave for India tonight to play IPL

Ending all speculations, Shakib Al Hasan has finally got the clearance from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), slated to start on March 23 (Saturday).

Hours after getting the No Objection Certificate (NOC), the all-rounder flies for India to join his IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad tonight.

Surisers will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening game of the IPL on March 24 (Sunday) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

BCB’s medical team earlier gave Shakib the nod to play as they observed that the all-rounder has no problem in cricketing activities.

Shakib was ruled out of New Zealand tour following a finger injury sustained during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) final between Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians on February 9.

Even though he had the outside chance to play the third Test against New Zealand, which was called off following a terrorist attack, the BCB didn’t allow him to go there, keeping aggravating injury in mind.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they suggested Shakib to contact medical team and physio time to time and update his condition.

“We tried to reach in a concrete consensus regarding his fitness before giving him the NOC, given that he is our important member,” Chowdhury said here today.

“Based on the opinion of the medical team and physio, we issued an NOC for him just today, so he has no problem now to play the IPL. But according to NOC, it is mandatory for him to communicate with our medical team and physio time to time and give his update.”

But it is not clear when he will join the national team to start preparation camp for the ICC Cricket World Cup. Most of the players of other teams will join their national side halfway through the IPL.

Chowdhury said when Shakib will return to country from IPL will depend on what the team managements suggests.

“Team management will communicate to him when he should return to the country. Whether he will play full tournament or return to the country halfway through the tournament will depend on Cricket Operations.”BSS.
