Francophonie Festival begins at AFD today

Every year, the Francophone community celebrates and promotes worldwide the use of the French language as well as cultural and linguistic diversity.

Journée Internationale de la Francophonie (Francophonie Festival) is celebrated around the world every year on March 20 to commemorate the signing of the Niamey Convention in Niger, which took place on 20 March 1970 to create what is now the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). OIF is an association of 88 member states and governments.

Live every year, the festival is set to kick off today at 11am at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital. The festival will continue till March 27.

In Bangladesh, the High Commission of Canada, embassies of Egypt, France, Morocco, Qatar, Switzerland, and Vietnam, along with the Alliance Française de Dhaka will be organising a number of events in Dhaka such as guided tour in French, theatre, francophone quiz, translation contest, concert, francophone film screening, pétanque tournament, LabCitoyen, storytelling contest, poster design contest, treasure hunt, etc
