Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Shafiqul Haque Heera expressed his deepest sorrow at the heinous gun attack by a terror at Christchurch mosque during the Jumu’ah prayer yesterday where Bangladesh cricketers were supposed to attend the prayer.

The former skipper in an interview with a local private TV channel said, “ I’m astonished to see such a deadly and devastating attack took place in a country like New Zealand.”

“As to me or so many others New Zealand in the most safest country in terms of security concern in the world. So no body can think such a bloody terrorist attack could organize in that part of the  world.”

“I had the opportunity to tour New Zealand in 2010 with Bangladesh tem as manager where I noticed the country’s prime minister move with only two security guards. But we here took all pre-cautionary measures for any big occasions.”

“I’m sorry to say that particular two countries Australia and South Africa raise security concern when they come to visit Bangladesh. Even one month before the tour their own security personnel came here to see the security arrangements and only then their respective board gave green signal to tour Bangladesh.”

He said. “I’m very sorry to state that the heinous Christchurch mosque attack was carried out by a citizen of Australia.”

He further said that as a former senior cricketer he has  every right to seek proper security for Bangladesh players in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. “I would like to request the concerned authority of Bangladesh to send extra security people for each and every player wherever they tour.”

Heera said by the grace of the Almighty all members of Bangladesh team are safe and remained unhurt. “But I think it would be difficult for them to recover from mental shock ahead of the Tri-nation series and ICC Cricket World Cup. May Allah help the players recover from mental shock as soon as possible so that they can draw their attention for the preparation of the great cricket show on the earth.”

He also thanked Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mashud Pilot to take a wise decision to direct the bus driver to go back to hotel after learning from a Kiwi woman on the way who asked them not to proceed further as she heard fierce shooting or fire going on inside the mosque.
