Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Md Mahbub Ali on Sunday informed the Jatiya Sangsad that Biman Bangladesh Airlines will add three new aircraft to its fleet next year.
“On August 1, 2018, a G-to-G (government to government) agreement was signed to procure three Dash 8 Q400 aircraft from Canada aiming to induct those to the fleet of the national flag carrier,” he said while responding to a tabled starred question from treasury bench lawmaker Abdul Latif of Chattogram-11 in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
As per the agreement, he said, the first aircraft is expected to be added to Biman’s fleet in March 2020, while second aircraft in May 2020 and third one in June 2020.
The civil aviation minister said the three Dash 8 Q400 aircrafts will fly on seven domestic routes and two regional routes.
The domestic destinations from Dhaka include Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Jashore, Rajshahi, Saidpur and Barishal, while Kolkata and Yangon are the major regional destinations.
Replying to another question from lawmaker Md Shahe Alam of Barishal -2, Ali said currently, the national flag carrier is operating 13 aircraft in 15 international and seven domestic destinations.BSS.
