Shanta interested in film with apt story, character

Though easily recognisable as a model or an actress, or even as an anchor, Shanta Jahan is mostly popular as an anchor now, having spent a few years in the country’s showbiz industry with multiple identities on the small screen.

What about forays into the big screen, then? Yes, Shanta has received numerous proposals for working in films from many directors at different times. After learning about the stories and her characters in those projects, she gave her primary consent to work in several projects. Yet, finally, she walked away when she found her co-artistes in the films were not up to her expectations.

Santa, however, still looks forward to working on the big screen, if the film features an off-track story with a female character at the centre. Shanta said, “I must have interest in working in films. But the films in which I want to work should come up with unique stories. I want them to revolve around a female character that tells the tale of a fighting woman. More precisely, I want to work in a film that would provide me enough space for acting rather than merely showcase my glamour on the big screen.”

Shanta spent a busy day working as an anchor in two big programmes yesterday (Saturday). She was the anchor in the launch ceremony of a new Bangla daily in the morning, while she participated as an anchor in the recording of a TV show titled ‘Kirtimoti Sammanana 2018’ in the evening. It will be aired on Maasranga TV on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day.

Beginning her journey with Mabrur Rashid Bannah’s tele-drama ‘Nine and a Half’, Shanta acted in a few tele-dramas. The last drama serial she worked in was ‘Bou Bibi Begum’, directed by Ezaz Munna. She has also worked as a model in more than 30 television commercials.

As an anchor, Shanta is currently seen in several regular TV shows, such as ‘Sokal Belar Roddur’ on Banglavision, ‘Swarnali Sada Kalo’ on ATN Bangla, ‘Satarka Sangket’ on News 24 and ‘Boka Baksor Addakhana’ on Channel 24.
