Biswa Ijtema concludes
Devotees offer prayers seeking blessings for mankind as the second part of Biswa Ijtema concludes with the final supplication or ‘Akheri Munajat’ on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi, on the outskirts of the capital, yesterday. Independent Photo

The five-day long 54th Biswa Ijtema concluded following Akheri Munajat (final prayer) with the participation of followers of Indian Islamic preacher Mawlana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi yesterday morning. Indian Mawlana Shamim Ahmed conducted the second phase Akheri Munajat from 11:45 am to 12:02 pm. Indian Mawlana Iqbal Hafiz conducted the Hedayati Bayan after Fazar prayer which was translated into Bangla by Mawlana Syed Osama Islam.

Biswa Ijtema with the participation of the followers of Maulana Muhammad Saad Al Kandhalvi started on Sunday which was extended by another day as heavy rain disrupted the congregation.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the Akheri Munajat of the followers of Maulana Jubair Hassan was held on the same ground which was started on Friday morning. Since 2011, the congregation has been held in two phases. However, this year’s Ijtema is underway in a single phase with separate final prayers by two factions of the Tabligh Jamaat.

Biswa Ijtema, the 2nd largest congregation of the Muslims after hajj, has been organising at the venue since 1967.
