Collection of nomination papers for DUCSU poll begins Tuesday

Collection of nomination papers for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union polls will begin (tomorrow) on Tuesday .

As per the election schedule, announced on February 11, aspirants can collect nomination papers from their respective halls from 10 am to 4 pm, everyday, from tomorrow till February 25.

Candidates can submit nomination papers till 12 noon of February 26. The papers would be scrutinised from 2 pm on February 26 while nomination papers can be withdrawn till 1 pm of March 2, BSS reports.

“We have taken all arrangements to distribute nomination papers to the aspirants. They can collect forms from the returning officers for DUCSU and hall union poll from respective halls,” Chief Returning Officer of DUCSU election, Prof Mahfuzur Rahman told BSS.

After a hiatus of nearly three decades, the much awaited DUCSU poll is scheduled to be held on March 11. In line with the amended constitution of DUCSU, election will be held to 25 posts of DUCSU and 13 posts of every hall union. Election to DUCSU and hall unions will be held from 8am to 2pm without any interruption.

The final list of candidates for DUCSU and hall unions will be published on the notice board of all dormitories and university website ducsu.du.ac.bd at 4 pm on March 3.

The draft voter list will be published on February 20 while a supplementary voter list will be published on March 5 on the notice boards of the halls and the website.

Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will not collect nomination papers tomorrow as DU authorities were yet to meet their demands, said JCD leaders.

While briefing the media at Madhur canteen, JCD general secretary Akramul Hasan said, “We will continue our dialogue with the authorities and remain positive about the DUCSU poll, up to the end”.

JCD leaders said that they would wait until the last date of collection of nomination papers before they make up their minds.

JCD’s demands include setting up of polling booths outside the residential halls, deferring election for three months and raising the age limit to 30.
