Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain yesterday said every lawyer must take up at least two cases without charging their clients for the greater interest of establishing the rule of law and reducing the backlog of cases. Hossain was addressing a programme titled "Mymensingh celebration-2019" in the Supreme Court auditorium. The Greater Mymensingh Supreme Court Ainjibi Kallayan Samity organised the programme. Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque, secretary of the Mymensingh Supreme Court Ainjibi Kallayan Samity, conducted the ceremony, while its president advocate AKM Fazlul Haque Khan presided over the gala event.

Appellate Division Justice Nuruzzaman Noni, High Court Division Justice Obaidul Hassan, Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Badruzzaman, Justice Amir Hossain, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Joynul Abedin, Supreme Court registrar Dr Md Zakir Hossain, and senior advocate M Amin Uddin were also present.

Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque, convenor of the celebration committee, said they would hold the programme each year.

Speakers urged the Mymensingh Supreme Court Ainjibi Kallayan Samity to arrange workshops for lawyers to make them adept at their job.

“Judges and lawyers must remain alert against any irregularities. They should uphold the image and dignity of the legal profession,” the Chief Justice said.

He also said the skill, education, sincerity and hard work of lawyers played a great role in establishing the rule of law and ensuring justice for litigants.

The judiciary will go forward following the joint effort of lawyers and judges, he added.
