Two local, two Indian films to be screened today

Two Indian films titled ‘Charulata’, ‘Bakita Byaktigata’ and two local films titled ‘Swapnajaal’, ‘Komola Rocket’ will be screened today at Teacher Students Centre (TSC) Auditorium of Dhaka University, as a part of the six-day festival ‘Aamar Bhashar Cholocchitro 1425’.

Dedicated to the Language Movement martyrs, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) has organised the festival featuring Bengali films from Bangladesh and India.

‘Charulata’, a 1964 Indian Bengali drama film written and directed by Satyajit Ray based upon the novella ‘Nastanirh’ by Rabindranath Tagore, will be screened at 10am, while ‘Bakita Byaktigato’, directed by Pradipta Bhattacharyya and produced by Tripod Entertainment, will be screened at 1pm. The film ‘Charulata’ features Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee and Sailen Mukherjee.

On the other hand, Bangladesh National Film Award winning filmmaker Giasuddin Selim’s much-anticipated film ‘Swapnajaal’ will be screened at 3:30pm, while Noor Imran Mithu’s directorial debut ‘Komola Rocket’ (The Orange Ship) will be screened at 6:30pm.

‘Swapnajaal’ has been jointly produced by Bengal Creations from Bangladesh and Bengal Barta from India. The shooting of the film took place near the bank of the Dakatiya river in Chandpur and various places in Kolkata. Lustrous actress Pori Moni and newcomer Yash Rohan have paired in the film. Other important casts include Misa Sawdagar, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shilpi Sharkar Apu, Wahida Mollik Jolly, Shahidul Alam Sachchu and Iresh Zaker, among others.

‘Komola Rocket’ is a film based on the Bangla Academy Award winning writer Shahaduzzaman’s stories ‘Moulik’ and ‘Saipras’. Produced by Impress Telefilm, the lead roles of ‘Komola Rocket’ are played by Tauquir Ahmed and Lux-Channel i Super Star contestant Samiya, while Mosharraf Karim is seen as an agent. The story of the film revolves around a steamer named Rocket.
