‘Aamar Bhashar Cholocchitro 1425’ kicks off at DU

The 18th edition of ‘Aamar Bhashar Cholocchitro 1425’, a Bangla film festival dedicated to the Language Movement martyrs, kicked off in the capital yesterday.

Hosted by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), the six-day festival will screen a number of Bangla films at Teacher Students Center (TSC) Auditorium of Dhaka University till February 17.

Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mostafa Jabbar inaugurated the event.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said, “Film can be a powerful medium for spreading visionary ideas.”

He lauded the effort of DUFS saying through the program they will be leaving something noteworthy for Bangla language.

Freedom fighter and director Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bacchu, who was present as special guest, mentioned that a Bangalee, Hiralal Sen initiated filmmaking in the subcontinent.

“Even though he hailed from Manikganj district in Bangladesh; little have been done for his commemoration,” he added.

Former DU Vice-chancellor Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique remembered those who sacrificed their lives for keeping the honour of Bangla language.

“This venture of ours is for connecting our youths with the spirit of the Language Movement,” he said.

The festival will screen 16 feature films and four short films from both Bangladesh and West Bengal throughout its six-day span.

Today, three Bangladesh films—‘Adhiyar’ directed by Saidul Anam Tutul, ‘Bhat De’ directed by Amzad Hossain, ‘Nodir Naam Modhumoti’ by Tanvir Mokammel and one Indian Bengali film ‘Akaler Sondhane’ by Mrinal Sen will be screened at 10am, 1pm, 3:30pm and 6:30pm respectively.

Six films of the previous year have been nominated for Hiralal Sen Award, which will be awarded by Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on the fourth day of the festival. The nominated films are—‘Debi’, ‘Komola Rocket’, ‘Janmabhumi’, ‘Pathshala’, ‘Sanatan Galpa’ and ‘Mati Projar Deshe’.

The 18th Aamar Bhashar Cholocchitro is co-hosted by Banglalink, Dell EMC and Jazz Multimedia
