Star-studded Dhaka Dynamites will face off Chittagong Vikings in the make or break encounter of the eliminator of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur today.

The team, who will lose the match, will be eliminated from the tournament. So, both Dhaka and Chittagong honed their skills and techniques before their final showdown in the eliminator. Vikings held their intense pre-match day practice in morning session, while Dhaka did in evening session.

The 2016 BPL champions, Dhaka Dynamites, got their confidence back after winning their league-ending match against Khulna Titans following a five-match losing streak.

They lost twice in the league-round matches against Chittagong Vikings. Putting up the significance of the match, Dynamites head coach Khaled Mahumud Sujon said that if they lose the match against Vikings they will be crushed from the tournament.

“If we would play in the qualifier being placed one or two position, we would have been played in the knockout stage, where we had one more chance. I think we have to play one game more. That’s all,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

“Each match is important. We lost many close matches. It might be happened. In that time, we might be kept the flow what we gained at the initial stage. We lost some close matches. Then we could have won the last match and showed off our domination that’s more important,” Khaled Mahmud told media before the outset of their pre-match day training session at the national academy of the SBNCS yesterday.

Citing the names of Upul Tharanga, Andre Russell and Shakib Al Hasan, the head coach said that they have got a new formation of the team under which they are getting new hopes that might provide them good chance in the match.

“I believe a new formation in the team has been created after Upul Tharanga among the foreigners came. Our foreign players are yet to perform in that way. May be they didn’t perform for this time. They’ll spark this occasion,” he said.

“Andre Russell is such kind of player who has the ability to win the match single-handedly. Even, we didn’t get expected performance from Shakib. We’re under pressure. Shakib is one of the best all-rounders in the world,” he also said.

“Hopefully he’ll lead the team from the front. After losing two early wickets, the way we won the last match. Hopefully if we could keep our discipline in right place and utilise our planning we’ve good chance to fare well,” he said.

Sujon tipped them ‘underdog’ in this eliminator match and said that they have nothing to take Vikings lightly. They have a string of good players, who brought them at this stage of the BPL.

“A role of a captain is very important in a competition. Mushfiq (ur Rahim) led the team from the front. He played some brilliant innings. He is in burst of form. Even they have some players, who played well in the tournament. Delport played well in the last match. Their bowlers are in fine stead,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

“Actually, the performance from one-two players is needed to win the match. They have such performers in the team. There is nothing to take them lightly as we lost to them twice. So we are underdog. We will get down playing the next match as underdog,” he added.

On the other hand, Chittagong Vikings fast-bowler Syed Khaled Ahmed said that they want to beat Dynamites by playing better cricket in the next day match.

“Dhaka (Dynamites) is a big team. But there is no problem for them though they (D) are big team because we beat them in the last two matches. In this match, we will seek to play better cricket and win it,” Syed Khaled Ahmed said.

“There is no such big hitter in our team but they have. We’re lagging behind them in this place and difference is there. We’ll have opportunity to hit more than us. But we’ll seek to come out of it. The way we played last two matches will seek to play better than it and win this match against Dhaka Dynamites.” He also said.

“See, if we could win the last match, we placed third in points-table though we should have won the last match. Our batting has been done a bit worse. Now all are determined that we will do better in batting and bowling and fielding-all the three departments. Last match we missed some catches. We will work on those areas and try to utilize it,” he added.
