Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will soon float the expression of interest as a first step of the procedure to smoothen the participation of the both national and international company and consortium can take part in the process to erect the new international stadium with modern amenities at Purbachal.

The Board has set a target to finish the new stadium named Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium, funded by their own source, within the next three years at Purbachal after getting 37.49 acres land from the government

BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon made the announcement at the reception centre of the at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) after holding a meeting of the board of directors in Mipur yesterday.

Thanking to Prime minister for her wholehearted assistance to get the land, the BCB president said that they have formed a selection committee, where they will appoint some expert beside the people of the board.

“For the new stadium in Purbachal, we have got 37.47 acres land from the government. For this, we have first thanked to our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in our board meeting for her wholehearted support because it is impossible for us to get the land without her assistance,” said Nazmul Hasan Papon.

“We will soon float a tender of ‘expression of interest’ basically for two departments-design and consultancy so that all-national and international- can take part in the process. We have already a design. On basis of it, those can give us the best design, engineering and other things we will select them for consultancy,” Papon told media.

“We held discussion on our selection procedure, where our people of the board will be there along with that we will include some expertise from outside in this committee,” he added.

BCB president said that that they don’t make delay any longer to start and finish the work in the mentioned period.

“We’ve set a target to complete the stadium in the next three years. For this, we have to start the work very quick. We will not make delay,” he said.

“The stadium will be a ‘state of the art’ whose capacity will be 50,000 but we will try to increase it further. There will be academy, playing field, swimming pool, gymnasium, indoor facility and so on will be there,” Papon told in response to a query.

BCB boss also informed that they have to give only 10 lakh taka to get the land for the stadium.

He later said that they have wishes to build a five-star hotel beside the stadium as there will be much more land so if anyone feel desired to build hotel they will give them the required land to build the hotel.

“We had many issues including budget, financial issues along with some appointment. We could not have done all these not to hold the board meeting so long. We had appointed Steve Rhodes and other coaching staffs what we approved it,” he said.

“We put condolence proposal on the death of our board director Afzalur Rahman Sinha and observe a minute silence. We have also put forward a condolence proposal on the death of  former Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, who himself used to play cricket in Kishoreganj and would like Test cricket most,” he added.

“ICC chairman Shahanka Manohar will come to visit in Bangladesh for four days. He will watch the final of the BPL on February 8. It is a first visit for an ICC chairman. So, we have discussed how we could greet him. We will arrange programme to greet him properly. Actually we will finalise the programme within the next two days what we will do in honour of him during his stay in Bangladesh,” he said, signing off.
