Dhaka focus on last match to join play-off

Brushing aside the loss of the nail-baiting thriller against the table-toppers Comilla Victorians, Dhaka Dynamites wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan thinks that they should focus only on the next league-ending fixture against Khulna Titans.

Sohan also thinks that they still have opportunity to head into the play-offs of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) if they could play better brand of cricket and win the next match. “The last four-five matches we played and started were in huge pressure. Actually cricket is a game where anything without pressure is impossible,” said Nurul Hasan Sohan.

“Play without pressure is impossible. It is not a cause that our current state is liable for only pressure. We are here for only our own mistakes,” Sohan told media at the post-match conference at the media block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

“If we can win the next match, we have then our chance to go to the play-offs. For this, we have to play better cricket in the last group-phase match against Khulna Titans,” he added.

The wicketkeeper-batsman said that one of their top-order batsmen should give the shoulder to cross the team over the lines what they did not do in right way against Comilla Victorians despite having stroke-making batsmen.

“It was important to finish the proceeding one from top-order batsmen in such low-scoring match. It was not needed to play T20 like game,” he said.

“It would be better enough to rotate the strike by single. The wicket is always difficult for a new batsman. So, I think, if anyone could play with responsibility, the result of the match could then be different,” he continued.

He said that the momentum in Twenty20 is important what they lost after losing some early wickets that pushed them back in the match.

“You see when Shakib bhai went to the crease and started good but ultimately we lost some of our wickets early in shocking manner,” Dynamites keeper said.

“I think, the momentum is important in T20. We have a match tomorrow. If we could win the match, we will then get a chance to go into the next four. But the main thing is that we have to play better cricket to head into the play-offs,” he added.

“At 15 for three ultimately when 5 overs of the power play almost finished. We needed to use the power play. Actually we fell into pressure after losing three early wickets. I think, I took a chance but it did not hit the momentum. But scoring runs were so important.”

“When it was needed 16 runs and if the batsman like Russell was at the crease, it might be thought it is possible to chase down. But finally it did not happen. As it has gone, so we should focus on the next match to win  and  go through the league round for the play-offs. It’s important for us. We should be focused on it so that we could qualify.”
