Selim Al Deen’s ‘Putra’
coming to Shilpakala

Dhaka Theatre will stage the two shows of its 47th production ‘Putra’ today and tomorrow at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

Directed by Shimul Yousuf, ‘Putra’ is one of the plays that renowned playwright Selim Al Deen finished just before his death in 2008.

The play revolves around bewailing and lamentation of a couple for the death of their deceased son Manik. The play shows in a cold winter night, the couple named Siraj Maittal and Abchha is sitting on their yard in front of a bonfire. Dried roots of a mango tree burning into the bonfire reminds them of their son, who committed suicide hanging himself up from that very mango tree. In fact, the smoke of the mango trunk leads the couple to recall that bitter memory that take them to a surrealistic world.

The cast of the play includes Esha Yousuf, Milu Chowdhury, Asaduzzaman Aman, Samiun Jahan Dola, Sajjad Ahmed Rajib, Rafiqul Islam, Shahzada Samrat Chowdhury and others.

The art direction of the play ‘Putra’ is done by internationally renowned installation artist Dhali Al Mamun, while background music is done by Saki Banerjee and light by Nasirul Haque Khokon. Choreographed by Esha Yousuf, Soujanno Adhikary is the music composer of the play.

Tickets will be available in front of the hall before the show. Interested audience can contact 01929759062 or 01720019181 for advance ticket.
