Local players’ performance not disappointing: Mahmud

BCB director and Dhaka Dynamites coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon came up with different opinion with regards to the performance of the local players, who are being criticized heavily just after two matches for not performing up to the mark.

Mahmud said the bowlers’ performance remains up to the mark while batsmen didn’t get enough opportunity to showcase their performance as the top order or every side is filled with overseas recruit.

“The local players’ performance was not that bad of that magnitude what was told,” Mahmud said differing with the critics. “Mashrafe has been outstanding with bowling, so as Shakib who single-handedly won the game. Shuvataga Hom hammered 14 ball-38 for us and look he is outside from national team.”

“Tamim may not get the runs what is expected but it’s the too early stage of the tournament to criticise them. If I focus on my team only, our Rony Talukdar played a good knock. So it is not that bad.”

“It’s true that the local players don’t get enough opportunity to bat. In my team both Rony and Mizanur is opener but for the overseas recruit they are to bat down the order. At the same time we are not much used to in this format, I mean the players who are out of the team. They need time to cope with. I think as the tournament progresses, the local players will come better.”

While the local players’ performance is a source of concern, the presence of spectators in the tournament is also disappointing. According to Mahmud, the timing and the high rate of ticket is reason of low turn-up.

“We have seen spectators coming in the night game. The first game starts at 12.30 PM, which is busy hour for people as they are engaged with their office, school and other activities. The other reason might be the high rate of ticket. I think the price of ticket should be reduced.”

The match timing however later changed with the first game will start at 1.30 PM and the second one is from 6.30 PM.

But Mahmud quashed the fact the low-score is the reason of low turn-up in the ground.
