A total of 1016 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in different parts of the country, including the capital, ahead of the national election slated for December 30. The Election Commission made the decision to deploy the paramilitary force yesterday to maintain law and order ahead of the election. BGB Pilkhana headquarters Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter. The border guards were deployed at different parts of the country in the morning to assist administration to avert untoward incidents centering the polls, he said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has allocated Tk 271.83 crore for the law enforces including police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard and Ansar that will carry out its duties in the upcoming general election scheduled for December 30.

Election Commission has estimated that Tk 732 crore would be spent for holding the 11th parliamentary polls. A big chunk of money, a total of Tk 271,83,32,584, will be spent for Police, BGB, RAB, Border Guard Bangladesh and Asar and VDP.

Bangladesh Police has been allocated Tk 63,22,84,250, BGB Tk 33,02,43,884, RAB Tk 10,20,28,850, Bangladesh Coast Guard Tk 1,56,00,000 and Ansar and VDP Tk 163,81,75,600. In the last general election in 2014, the estimated expenditure for holding the poll was Tk 283 crore.

Generally 65 to 70 per cent of the estimated election expenditure is spent for the law enforcers while rest of the money is spent on election materials, election duties and other expenses.
