17 women leaders ready to fight from Barishal division

17 women leaders ready to fight from Barishal division

A total 17 women leaders collected nomination papers from their respective political parties to contest the next polls from 10 constituencies in Barishal division. They even started campaigning as same of their male counterparts.  

In six constituencies of Barishal district, female leaders collected nomination papers from their respective parties for six seats.

Among them, Begum Selima Rahman, a central leader of the BNP, collected nomination for the Barishal-3 (Babugang-Muladi) constituency, Bolkis Jahan Shirin, organising secretary of the BNP (Barishal division) for the Barishal-5 (Barishal Sadar) constituency,  and Ratna Amin, lawmaker and presidium member of the Jatiya Party, for the Barishal-6 (Bakarganj) constituency.

Besides, Irin Reza, wife of former MP Masud Reza, for the Barishal-6 constituency, Rubina Akhtar collected the nomination paper from the AL for Barishal-2 (Banaripara-Uzirpur) constituency, and Dr Shammi Ahmed, a central leader of the AL, collected her nomination for the Barishal-4 (Hizla-Mehendigang) constituency.

On the other hand Naznin Nahar, president of the Patuakhali Women League, and Kaniz Sultana Helen collected party nomination papers for the Patuakhali-2 (Mirzagang-Sadar-Dumki) constituency, while Fatema Akhtar, wife of a brother of lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman, and AL woman leader Mahinoor Akhtar Mahi collected party nomination papers for the Patuakhali-4 (Kolapara- Rangabali) constituency.

Fatinaz Firoz and Keshoara Sultana from the AL and Momotaz Begum from the BNP collected party nomination papers for the Jhalakathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency. Another BNP leader,  Ishrat Sultana Elen Bhutto, collected nomination for Jhalakathi-1 (Jhalakathi-Nalcity) and Ani Rahman for Pirojpur-1 (Sadar-Nesarabad-Nazirpur).

Women's League central vice-president Nasima Ferdausi and Farzana Sabur Tulu, daughter of former MP Golam Sabur Tulu, collected nomination papers for the Barguna-3 (Patharghata-Bamna-Betagi) constituency.

Leaders of local women organisations see the participation of these leaders as a good sign for women's empowerment.
