Huawei keen to support Bangladesh's ICT sector

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei is keen to support Bangladesh’s ICT sector to tap huge potentials, officials said, by providing it with newer innovative solutions.

“We want to bring innovative solutions to the industries in Bangladesh as long as they need … whatever our company have, we will bring those in Bangladesh,” said Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd CEO Zhang Zhengjun (Jun).

Zhang said this in a meeting when a 13-member media delegation from Bangladesh visited the Huawei headquarters at Shenzhen in China recently. Vice President of the Public Affairs and Communications Department of Huawei Technologies Company Ltd Guo Fulin and Senior Manager of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd Abu Jahid Parag were also present.

Two separate power-point presentations were made at the meeting on Huawei’s corporate affairs and their operations in Bangladesh.

Citing a very bright prospect of expanding further the Huawei’s operations in Bangladesh considering a big population size with high smart phone penetration, Zhang said they have already demonstrated 5G test in Bangladesh and they are ready to give this 5G network support to Bangladesh in the following years.

On July 25 this year, Huawei conducted Bangladesh’s first trial of fifth generation network (5G) teaming up with the Bangladeshi government’s Posts & Telecommunications Division, the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Robi. PM’s ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Ahmed Joy inaugurated the trial.

This next generation of wireless technology is expected to change the way of everyday life. 5G will play a vital role in automatic driving, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Big data, Internet of Things, Smart City and network, the Huawei officials added.

Around 60 percent of the mobile phone users in Bangladesh still use the 2G system which is still high, the Huawei Bangladesh CEO said adding they would try to shift their subscribers to 4G from the 3G and 2G systems to cope with the technological advancement.

Guo Fulin said most of their international customers are very happy to adopt Huawei’s solutions because of its wide range of services adding, “Our past 30 years’ track record demonstrates Huawei’s performances.”

During a visit to the Huawei’s factory at Songshan Lake Technology Industrial Park at Dongguan in China, the concerned Huawei officials informed that their global sales of smartphones totaled 150 millions in the last year and the target for this year is 200 million.

Huawei’s presence in Bangladesh market for past 20 years from 1998 with 85 percent of its local staffs from Bangladeshi nationals saw the country’s graduation from a basic technology-driven society to an advanced ICT-driven society where the Chinese multinational also played a pioneering role in deploying 3G and 4G in Bangladesh.

In continuation of this, 5G is the fifth generation of cellular mobile communications. It succeeds the 4G, 3G and 2G systems. 5G performance targets include high data rate, reduced latency, energy saving, cost reduction, higher system capacity and massive device connectivity.

Huawei played pioneering role in demonstrating 5G in Bangladesh. In future, the company wants to be a partner in the advancement of Bangladesh. Through dedication, Huawei wants to be an active part of the government’s ‘Vision 2021’.

Huawei is growing up together with the ICT Industry of Bangladesh and is also concerned about corporate social responsibility through programmes like-ICT Mobile Training Bus, Seeds for the Future, relief campaigns, sports sponsorship and so on, the Huawei Bangladesh CEO said.

Based in Dhaka, Huawei Bangladesh has 7 offices, 14 Terminal Service Centers and 350+ Smartphone Brand Shops in this country.
